Composition
Each g of Cream contains Acyclovir BP 5%w/w

Indications
Cold sores (herpes simplex virus)
Genital herpes
Herpes simplex infections of the skin, eg. herpes, cold sores

Dosage and Administration

The preparation is applied topically to the skin.
Acyclovir skin cream should be applied five times daily at approximately four hourly intervals, omitting the nighttime application.

Contraindications
Topical acyclovir is contraindicated in patients who develop hypersensitivity or chemical intolerance to the drug or other ingredients in the formulation.
There are no adequate and controlled studies to date using acyclovir in pregnant women, and the drug should be used during pregnancy only when the potential benefits justify the possible risks to the fetus.

Composition
Each Uncoated Tablet Contains Acyclovir BP 200 mg

Indications

1. Treatment of herpes simplex keratitis

2. Treatment of herpes simplex infections of skin and mucous secretion

3. Treatment of serve and/or generalised herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised and normally immune individuals

4. Prophylaxis of genital herpes simplex in the immunocompromised.

5. Suppression of genital herpes simplex in immunocompetent individuals with very frequent recurrences.

6. Treatment of varicella-zoster infections in immunocompromised and normally immune individuals.


Dosage and Administration


Dosage for treatment of Herpes simplex in adults: For treatment of Herpes simplex infections one 200mg Aciclovir tablet should be taken five times daily at approximately four-hourly intervals.

Treatment should continue for 5 days, but in severe initial infections may have to be extended.

Dosing should begin as early as possible after the start of an infection. For recurrent episodes this should preferably be during the prodromal period or when lesions first appear.

Dosage for Suppression of Herpes simplex in Adults: For suppression of Herpes simplex infections in immune-competent patients, one 200mg Aciclovir tablet should be taken four times daily at approximately six-hourly intervals.

Dosage for Prophylaxis of Herpes simplex in Adults: For prophylaxis of Herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients, 200mg aciclovir should be taken four times daily at approximately six-hourly intervals.

Dosage in Renal Impairment: for patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/minute) an adjustment of dosage to 200mg twice daily at approximately twelve-hourly intervals is recommended.


Contraindications
Acyclovir tablets are contraindicated in patients known to be hypersensitive to acyclovir.

Dosage and Administration

Dosage in Herpes simplex infections:

Mucosal and Cutaneous Herpes simplex (HSV-1 and HSV-2) Infections in Immunocompromised Patients:

Adults and Adolescents:
5 mg/kg infused at a contant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 7 days.

Pediatrics (Under 12 years of age):
10 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 7days.

Severe Initial clinical episodes of herpes genitalis:
Adults and Adolescents
(12 years of age and older): 5 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 5 days.

Herpes Simplex Encephalitis:
Adults and adolescents
(12 years of age and older): 10 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 10 days.

Pediatrics
(3 months to 12 years of age): 20 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 10 days.

Neonatal Herpes Simplex Virus Infections
(Birth to 2 months): 10 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 10 days. In neonatal herpes simplex infections, doses of 15 mg/kg or 20 mg/kg have been used; the safety and efficacy of these doses are not known.

Varicella Zoster Infections: Zoster in Immunocompromised patients:
Adults and Adolescents
(12 years of age and older): 10 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 7 days.
Pediatrics (Under 12 years of age): 20 mg/kg infused at a constant rate over 1 hour, every 8 hours for 7 days.
Obese patients: Obese patients should be dosed at the recommended adult dose using Ideal Body Weight.
