TETRACYCLINE CAPSULES 250 mg

(TETRACYCLINE HYDROCHLORIDE CAPSULES B.P.)

Antibiotic capsule for oral use.

Composition
Each hard gelatin capsule contains:
Tetracycline Hydrochloride B.P. : 250 mg
Approved colours used in capsule shell

Indications
Tetracycline hydrochloride is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by the following microorganisms:

Rickettasiae: (Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus fever, The typhus group, Q fever, rickettsialpox, tick fevers

Mycoplasma pneumoniae (PPLO, Eaton agent)

Agents of lymphogranuloma venereum & granuloma inguinale.

Etracycline is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by Gram negative microorganism namely
Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Shingella species & Haemophilus influenzae.

In acute intestinal amoebiasis, the tetracyclines may be a useful adjunct to amoebicides.

Urinary tract infection.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: One capsule four times a day. This may be increased to six or eight capsules daily in severe infections.

Children: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age. For children above the age of twelve years, the dose is 25-50mg/kg a day divided in 2 or 4 equal doses. The maximum dose should not exceed the recommended adult dosage.

Or as directed by the Physician.

Administration: Tetracycline should be swallowed whole with plenty of fluid while sitting or standing to wash down the drugs and reduce the risk of oesophageal irritation and ulceration. Doses should be taken at least an hour before or two hours after meals. It should be noted that absorption of tetracyclines is impaired by foods and some dairy products, antacids containing aluminium, calcium or magnesium, and by iron-containing preparations. Therapy should be continued for up to three days after characteristic symptoms of the infection have subsided.


Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tetracycline or any of the ingredients.
Overt renal insufficiency.
Children under 12 years of age.
Use during pregnancy or during lactation in women breast feeding infants is contraindicated.

10 Blisters of 10 Capsules each is packed in a carton along with the insert literature.
