METRONIDAZOLE TABLETS 200 mg

Antiprotozoal tablets for oral use.

Composition

Each sugar coated tablet contains Metronidazole B.P. : 200 mg.
Colour : Quinoline Yellow

Indications
Treatment of trichomoniasis, giardiasis and amoebiasis.
Treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections.
Treatment of Crohn's disease.


Dosage and Administration

In Trichomoniasis
Adults and children over 10 years: 1 Tablet three times daily for 7 consecutive days.
Children 7-10 years: 100 mg three times daily after food for 7 days.
Children 3-7 years: 100 mg twice daily after food for 7 days.
Children 1-3 years: 50 mg three times daily after food for 7 days.

In chronic hepatic or intestinal amoebiasis & anaerobic bacterial infections
Adults and children over 10 years: 1 Tablet three times daily for 7 consecutive days.
Children - aged 7-10 years: 200-400 mg, three times daily for 5-10 days.
Children - aged 3-7 years: 100-250 mg three times daily for 5-10 days.
Children - aged 1-3 years: 100-200 mg three times daily for 5-10 days.

In Giardiasis
Adults and children over 10 years: 1 Tablet three times daily for 7 consecutive days.
Children - aged 7-10 years: 1 g daily as a single dose for 3 successive days.
Children - aged 3-7 years: 600 mg daily as a single dose for 3 successive days.
Children - aged 1-3 years: 400 mg daily as a single dose for 3 successive days.

Or as directed by the Physician.

Administration : Oral route of administration. The tablets must be taken with or after food. The above doses must be taken at regular intervals and prescribed courses must be completed. The duration of a course of Metronidazole treatment is about 7 days but it will depend upon the seriousness of the patient's condition as assessed clinically and bacteriologically.

Alcoholic drinks should be avoided while on this medication.


Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or any of the ingredients.
