Ketorolac Tromethamine USP. ……….. 10 mg

Indications
Moderate to severe pain

Ketorolac is recommended for the short-term management of moderate to severe pain. A beneficial effect has been shown in acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain, in renal colic and in cancer pain but the major indications is for postoperative pain. When pain originates from direct invasion of the nerve roots e.g. in cancer, opioids are to prefered. Good analgesia has been shown when the drug is used as a sole analgesic agent, and a morphine sparing effect has been shown when the two drugs are used in combination.

Ketorolac is not recommended for obstetric analgesia.


Dosage and Administration

Usual adult dose:

Analgesics: Patients 16 to 64 years of age who weigh at least 50 kg and have normal renal function: 20 mg initially, followed by 10 mg up to four times a day at four to six hour intervals as needed.

Patients weighing less than 50 kg; and/ or patients with renal function impairment, 10 mg up to four times a day, at four to six hour intervals as needed.


Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to ketorolac is an absolute contraindication.
